Lutherans

Lutherans, the first Protestants, trace their origins to Martin Luther’s 1517 protest against the Roman Catholic Church, emphasizing that we are saved by God’s grace through faith alone. Central to Lutheran belief is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became human to free us from sin and restore our relationship with God, revealing God’s boundless love and grace. The Bible is foundational to our faith journey; we read it with respect for its inspiration and study it thoughtfully, seeking God’s message of love and hope for all creation. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America acknowledges past shortcomings and is committed to becoming a more inclusive, multi-ethnic community reflecting the diversity of God’s kingdom. No matter your background or identity, you are welcome here—there is a place for you in the Lutheran Church.
